Step Up Internship Terms and Conditions

The Travel Media Awards Step Up programme is open to anyone aged 18-30 who can demonstrate a passion for travel media and identifies as coming from an underrepresented demographic, which includes but isn’t limited to race, religion, disability and socioeconomic background.

  • Applicants must be UK residents and have the right to work in the UK.
  • The deadline to submit your application is Monday 26 January 2026.
  • Five candidates will be selected for the following:
    • An eight-week paid internship in London in summer 2026.
    • Four weeks will be spent learning about PR and communications with: Virgin Atlantic, FINN Partners, Intrepid Travel, easyJet Holidays or Kuoni.
    • The other four weeks will be spent learning about journalism and publishing at TTG Media, APL Media, The Sun, Ink Global or Metro. 
    • Six months of mentoring via Zoom (6 x 1hr sessions).
    • Ticket to the Travel Media Awards in autumn 2026.
  • This internship is based in London and is office-based. It’s not a remote role — you’ll be required to be in physical attendance and organise your own accommodation. *Please note, partner companies can assist successful applicants with securing accommodation at their own discretion.
  • The applicant will be responsible for their own expenses.
  • The applicant shouldn’t have previously been a full-time employee at any of the companies listed (including work experience longer than four weeks).
  • Use of artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t permitted at any stage of your application. All submissions will be checked using AI detection software.
  • If invited to interview, applicants will be asked to provide a short (maximum 60-second) video ahead of the meeting.

Travel Media Awards Terms and Conditions



  • Work’ is an article, feature, blog, vlog, photograph, broadcast, publication, travel book or website in any category that you wish to enter.
  • Work submitted must have been published in the UK in print or online, or if broadcast, aired on television, radio or online between 1 May 2024 and 30 April 2025.
  • Work submitted must show the date and name of the medium in which it was published.
  • In the categories stated, published articles must be uploaded as separate text-only documents with the bylines deleted to enable anonymous judging. Please include the headline and sell as well as the body copy. Formatting: Arial, size 12, single-space. File type: .pdf or .docx. File name: headline and publication name.
  • Individual pieces of work may be entered in more than one category, but they must be submitted in a separate email for each category entry. 
  • A ‘travel article’ is defined as a piece of writing about travel products, topics or destinations that’s published in a publication — newspaper, magazine or online. 
  • A ‘travel feature’ is defined as a piece of writing or broadcasting that concentrates on a particular travel-related subject or destination. 
  • A ‘travel blogger’ is defined as a writer who has at least one year of regular travel blogging experience. 
  • A travel vlogger is defined as a writer/journalist who has at least one year of regular travel vlogging experience.
  • The closing date for submissions of work is 23 May 2025.
  • The decision of the judging panels is final. 
  • The Awards organisers reserve the right to amend or withdraw a category or categories from the Awards should they conclude there are insufficient entries.

  • Please note: if any work samples have to be mailed, they will not be returned unless an appropriately sized, self-addressed stamped mailer is provided. APL Media will not be responsible for any damaged or lost works.
