Working towards a better travel industry at TTG Media
Intern Sophie Colson’s travel trade journey
While Sophie Colson — one of this year’s Travel Media Awards Step Up interns — had some knowledge of B2B media, she had never considered writing for a travel trade publication before. After spending four weeks at TTG Media, she has gained insight into this side of the industry and discovered her passion for content aimed at professionals within the travel sector.
Throughout her time at TTG Media — one of the world’s oldest travel trade titles — Sophie worked with all sectors of its editorial team, spanning news, features, luxury and paid partnerships. Her role included:
- Researching and writing news stories and features.
- Attending the Inclusive Travel Forum in partnership with the Spanish Tourist Office and TTG’s Fairer Travel Event.
- Networking with industry professionals and building new connections.
“I learned countless lessons from TTG Media — it was rewarding and enjoyable to work for a trade organisation determined to fulfil its vision of making the travel industry smarter, better and fairer. It has inspired me to pursue more B2B routes in my career.”
Following her placement, Sophie will undertake six months of mentorship with an experienced travel media professional and also attend the Travel Media Awards at the Pan Pacific London hotel on 13 October. Follow the TMA Step Up interns’ journeys on Instagram and LinkedIn.
Sophie is one of five interns participating in the 2025 Travel Media Awards Step Up scheme, which aims to drive diversity and inclusion in the travel media industry through practical work experience, mentorship and networking. To find out more about the TMA Step Up scheme, click here.
