Meet the five PR companies driving diversity and inclusion in travel media

News Step Up

This summer, the Travel Media Awards Step Up internship will equip five young people from underrepresented backgrounds with the skills to build a successful career in travel public relations. Each intern will undertake a total of eight weeks of work placements (one focused on journalism/publishing and another learning about PR).

The five organisations offering insight into the travel PR sector are:

  • easyJet holidays — easyJet holidays, which launched in 2019, is one of the UK’s major tour operators, having taken more than 2.5 million people away in 2024. It offers beach and city package holidays to over 7,000 hotels in more than 100 destinations across Europe, directly through its website and via more than 5,000 travel agent partners.
  • FINN Partners — known for being one of the fastest-growing global, independent agencies — with a heart and conscience — FINN Partners serves clients through a powerful combination of hands-on partnership, highly specialised expertise and a values-driven culture that champions integrity, collaboration and innovation.
  • Intrepid Travel — Intrepid Travel has been a world leader in responsible travel for over 35 years. The company’s mission is to create positive change through the joy of travel, which comes to life on more than 900 trips, all designed to allow clients to truly experience local culture.
  • Kuoni — the global travel company (and the country’s leading long-haul tour operator) believes everyone’s holiday should have the wow factor, bringing its own insight to create outstanding travel experiences all around the world.
  • Virgin Atlantic — the airline was founded by entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson in 1984. Today, it employs more than 8,500 people worldwide and flies customers to 30 destinations across four continents.

Throughout the PR placements, interns will be working on several marketing and communications tasks, including:

  • Monitoring coverage
  • Researching stories and trends
  • Drafting press releases and pitches
  • Creating content for social media channels and capturing all the data for analytics
